The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services agency has issued an updated version of the Form I-9 with a new expiration date of May 31, 2027. USCIS administers the employment eligibility verification requirements of the 1986 Immigration Reform and Control Act (IRCA). USCIS has updated the Form I-9Employment Eligibility Verification, with a new expiration date of May 31, 2027. The previous version of the I-9, which is marked “Edition 08/01/23,” carries an expiration date of July 31, 2026. There are no other changes to the Form I-9.

While it is common for federal agencies to seek renewal of forms every three years, USCIS submitted a renewal request early to align with the launch of an E-Verify NextGen demonstration project that will integrate the employment eligibility verification process with E-Verify. Employers may continue to use the 2023 edition of the form until July 31, 2026, but USCIS is encouraging employers to update their Form I-9 systems to show the new May 31, 2027, expiration date as soon as feasible.
