The U.S. Department of Labor’s Veterans’ Employment and Training Service (DOL-VETS) has released enforcement statistics for fiscal year (FY) 2021 detailing the number of complaints filed with the agency by military service members under the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA). USERRA is the federal law that protects the employment and reemployment rights of employees who have been called to active military duty.

These latest data continue to show a decade-long trend of a decline in the total number of annual USERRA complaints filed with DOL-VETS. In FY 2021, individuals submitted 862 complaints to DOL-VETS, down 9% from the 944 complaints filed the year before. In addition, DOL-VETS reports that it resolved 891 USERRA complaints in FY 2021, a 17% drop from the 1,075 complaints resolved in FY 2020.
