E-Verify has introduced a new Status Change Report that shifts responsibility to employers to proactively monitor revoked Employment Authorization Documents (EADs).
U.S. employers are responsible for ensuring that all their employees are authorized to work in the United States. They typically accomplish this through Form I-9 — and for federal contractors, through E-Verify. Employees may present various documents to prove work authorization, including an Employment Authorization Document issued by the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). EADs allow specified non-citizens to work in the United States for a limited period.
DHS will no longer send E-Verify Case Alerts to employers when it revokes an employee’s EAD. Instead, employers must generate the new Status Change Report in E-Verify to identify revoked EADs. Employers should regularly access the Status Change Report under the “Reports” tab in E-Verify and promptly reverify work authorization if an employee’s EAD appears as revoked.
