The Center for Workplace Compliance (CWC), our affiliated nonprofit membership association, presents an update of state and local workplace compliance requirements that occurred since December.
Three states had developments about paid leave:
- Michigan’s Earned Sick Time Acttakes effect February 21. It requires employers with 10 or more employees to allow their employees to accrue at least 1 hour of paid sick time for every 30 work hours.
- Minnesota published a bulletin, guidance, and proposed final rules regarding the paid family and medical leave that begins in January 2026.
- The Paid Family and Medical Leave poster, notices, and 2025 rate sheets that Massachusetts employers must display are available on the Massachusetts government website.
In Illinois, there were developments related to regular rate calculation and subminimum wage for persons with disabilities.
In New Jersey, there were developments regarding artificial intelligence and protections for employees’ marijuana use.
In New York state, there were developments regarding worker’s compensation and discrimination based on reproductive health decisions.
