According to the Director and Deputy Director of California’s Department of Fair Employment and Housing (DFEH), the state agency that enforces California’s comprehensive pay data reporting requirements, Governor Gavin Newsom wants to further bolster the program by giving DFEH additional resources to hire new staff to strengthen its pay data enforcement capabilities, including in its Information Technology (IT) Division to review, maintain, and clean up the incoming raw pay data for analysis. In addition, DFEH would hire for the first time an unspecified number of social scientists to analyze the pay data submitted, create statistical models to flag whether statistically significant pay disparities exist, and assist DFEH with any of the agency’s pay discrimination investigations.
